At the Q&A period, following a performance of I CAN CRY at the Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, one of the students got up, wiping his eyes, and said: " I always knew what the Holocaust was, but I've never understood it. Now, for the first time, I do." Another said: "No offence, to my teacher, but this was the best history lesson I have ever had". As part of The High Schools Project, FROM HOME TO HOMELND strives to bring the play "I CAN CRY" to as many high schools as we can.

In response to recent changes in the social studies curriculum that now require the teaching of the Holocaust as part of World War II, we are offering school based performances of the play I Want the Whole World to See that I CAN CRY. It is intended as a part of a program to address the most fundamental concerns of respect for human life and dignity, and the responsibility of society as a whole to check uncontrolled and institutionalized forms of hatred, persecution and genocide.

The program is intended for High School students, grades nine through twelve. The play could be performed in the school's auditorium or theater. Following the presentation, the participators will be available for a question and answer period. A booklet of Erna's memoir, including photographs from the presentation will be distributed to the students.

Presentation of this project could provide an effective learning tool in History courses as well as courses that deal with civil rights, tolerance and violence prevention.

As part of our educational reach, From Home to Homeland also plans to create a video/DVD version of I Can Cry!, to be distributed to schools, libraries and other educational institution around the country and the world.
